Srinagar, June 17(KNO) : The authorities in Kashmir University (KU) have come under severe criticism for resorting to inordinate delay in holding the backlog examinations for students of undergraduate fourth semester. The students have joined the course in 2015. The students complained to KNO that the delay in holding the exam for their backlog subjects has cost them dearly as they were rendered ineligible for the entrance test conducted by the varsity in recent past. “The KU authorities are playing with career of hundreds of students by delaying the conduct of exams on time. The inordinate delay in holding exams is extending our course unnecessarily,” the students told KNO. The students told KNO that after joining the colleges in 2015, they should have completed their three year course in 2018. “But our course has consumed almost five years. This is all because of the semester system of exams and delay adopted by the KU to streamline they exam system,” the agitated students said. The students urged the KU administration to conduct their examinations so that they can continue their studies at Post graduation level. "We missed our entrance examinations due to our non-eligibility as we had not cleared our backlog subjects,” the students told KNO. They said some students have backlog in only one subject due to which they are not eligible for entrance examinations for PG courses. “If KU will conduct our examinations on time we can pursue admissions process for PG in other institutions,” the students said. Pertinently, after the implementation of the semester system of exams at college level, the course of the students consumed four to five years instead of three years. Under this system of exams KU holds two exams in a year besides the backlog exams as well. “If KU is not able to streamline it, they should wind up the semester system of exams and reintroduce the previous annual system of exams,” the students said. The students accused the Kashmir University of putting their career at stake. “The university should issue examination forms soon and conduct exam in next two months so that we can give exam and appear in other entrance tests without wasting another year," students said. Meanwhile an official told KNO that the issue will be looked into. “The issue is under consideration of the varsity authorities. The exam notification will be issued very soon,” the KU official said.
